America. The election is upon us and it is clear that it is anything but over. But fret not, Dennis Marrero (nephew) and myself, Craig Childs (Uncle), are here to help. We feel your pain about all the hate, lies, distortions, gaffes, mis-spoken words, haircut analyses and general 10-league boot deep bull crap that passes for political discourse.
Dennis and I are the Third Way. And it is now or never.
Besides not really wanting the democratic party to commit mass suicide, Dennis and I agree the next President will not be able to kick the can any further down the road.
Dennis and I might also agree that the vision for America represented by the President is pretty straight forward, and that the Republican Party leadership is an embarrassment.
Dennis and I would also agree that the left wing of the Democrats are far more interesting than the homophobic theocrats of the right wing.
So why would an old fart former liberal/socialist who turned to the dark side during the 1st Clinton administration want to even consider a blog with Dennis? Many of my heroes were men and women of the left from the 70s and 80s and still are, and Dennis speaks their language. His perspective isn’t a bunch of nonsense, and I admire how he can rattle off old left one liners without a moment’s hesitation when confronted with a closed mind.
Why would Dennis bother with a traitor to the cause? I assume it is because he respects my years of experience, my brilliant intellect, and rapier wit. But he also is of a generation that admires and respects the elderly, a trait we boomers never nurtured, much to our loss, and the country’s. In a nut shell we misunderstood Thoreau. We believed moral truth could be created out of the innocence of youth, and thought that teenage alienation was the most profound of political expression.
What this blog represents is a rejection of radical dualism. We believe there is no paradox between right and left, conservative or liberal when legitimately presented. Where there is paradox, that is where we find corruption.
